The 2025 White Hills Women’s Seniors played their first game of the season, Eaglehawk v White Hills, under lights at Canterbury Park oval, Eaglehawk. After struggling last season to get enough for players every week, in their first game for 2025 we had a full team and an interchange bench. The team stepped onto the field with energy and determination, eager to showcase their skills and teamwork.
They faced a tough opponent but remained undeterred, demonstrating remarkable resilience and cohesion. As the game unfolded, White Hills displayed impressive skills, coordination, passing the ball with precision and creating several scoring opportunities. Their defence was very solid, intercepting Eaglehawk’s attacks on many occasions.
Despite the pressure, White Hills maintained their focus, their dedication to their training evident on the night. The rotations allowed the players to stay fresh and sustain their energy throughout the game. As the minutes ticked by, the anticipation grew, with each near miss and stopping Eaglehawks ability to score, adding to the excitement of the night. The crowd cheered as they witnessed the intense battle between the two teams, White Hills managing to keep Eaglehawk scoreless in the 3rd quarter of the night
The camaraderie among the White Hills players was palpable, as they supported each other through every challenge they faced. Phil and Gerri’s guidance has clearly paid off, with the team displaying not only individual brilliance but also a deep sense of unity and purpose.
As the final whistle blew, the White Hills Women’s team walked off the field with their heads held high, knowing they had given their all. Their supporters applauded their dedication and the thrilling match they had played. The atmosphere was electric, with fans and players alike already looking forward to the next big game.
Players of the match
With many players contributing to the night, the best players were Nadia Peebles, Oakley Turner, Acacia Edwards, Kadeisha Smith, Gabby Speirs, and Tracey Anderson. We also must mention our first-year player’s, Jessica Kipping and Gabby Speirs. The first goal of the season was kicked from the boot of Daisy Gee in the 3rd quarter of the game.
The team has grown and improved since last year due to the efforts of Phil, Gerri, and the football program. Although they didn’t come away with the win this week, they should be proud of their performance.
