Senior women’s footy recap

White Hills Women’s Football team at the start of Round 7, with 4 games under our belts are yet to come away with a win. The team has displayed incredible effort and comradery so far this year. It has been motivating for the coaches to watch them grow.

Rounds 2-5 recap

Round’s 2 & 3 this season were bye’s. We faced a tough Round 4 game against North Bendigo with a loss of 51 to 35. White Hills are displaying grit and determination to be competitive right to the final siren. As a team with a lot of new football players, with only a season of experience under their belts, their game sense, knowledge of each other and their skills are still developing. But they continuously have fun while playing, making the journey worthwhile.

Round 5 saw a face off against one of the top teams; again a loss. The White Hills seniors didn’t make easy for them, with pressure applied throughout the entire game. The score doesn’t reflect how hard both teams worked to get scoring opportunities. Considering the last game in the 2024 season, White Hills lost to this same team 216 to 0; a 100 point loss is a great improvement. The officials and coached could not be more proud of the girls and ladies that make White Hills such a wonderful team.

Pink round 6 for breast cancer

Round 6 on Mother’s Day again saw a face-off with another top team. Castlemaine have taken the flag for the last few years in a row, and unfortunately White Hills were short of numbers. The CVFL and Castlemaine’s support for this game to go ahead and get women playing a game of footy was wonderful to watch. Fortunately Castlemaine were able to ‘lend’ players each quarter to level the playing field. The Castlemaine players who pitched played competitive footy against their team mates, and again it was a fair and tough match.

Excitingly, we launched our new Pink Match guernsey’s, which looked fantastic. They stood out and they were bright. If they start conversations about females being vigilant in checking their breasts, they will have done their job. The Pink Round is to raise awareness for Breast Cancer, and it couldn’t be a more important message. There are not many who can say they haven’t affected by this disease. The White Hills Junior Football Club will host an additional special Pink round the first weekend in August to raising funds for BCNA & the OTIS foundation. These new Pink jerseys are going to get a good run each year.

Round 7 sends us off to the QEO in Bendigo for what promises to be another competitive game of Women’s football.
